Extrapolate

In mathematics, extrapolation is a type of estimation, beyond the original observation range.
The weather data is an extrapolation, so don't take it for granted.

We need to extrapolate in order to get an idea of how it going to behave.

Interpolate

From Latin interpolare, Latin interpolatum, from inter (“between”) and polire (“to polish”).

Interpolation provides a means of estimating intermediate points.
In other words, it's estimating in-between values.
Let's interpolate to get in-between the values.

From Latin polare, Latin polatum, from polire (“to polish”).
The word "polate" is what brings interpolate and extrapolate together.

Polation provides a means of estimating intermediate and/or out of bounds points.
How should we polate this data, interpolate or extrapolate?
