They have used MTV to promote themselves, through out their entire career, they changed their imagine to appeal to middle school emo kids, made a fucking rock band, and have a broadway musical called 21 guns.

Green Day is not a punk band, like they claim to be, punk is like The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, The New York Dolls, etc.
