"Confessions of a Thug" by Philip Meadows Taylor is a 1839 fictional novel based on the "thug life" of Syeed Amir Ali. "Thugs" were organized gangs sometime before 1836 A.D.

Contrary to popular belief, Tupac Shakur did not coin the term"thug life."
