The
New York City neighborhood at the west end of W 13th st. in
Manhattan. Originally famous for its slaughterhouses, it evolved in the mid 20th century into a collection of
bars and
brothels that catered to the
gay and
BDSM crowds. Like most of the other interesting parts of New York, in the 21st century it has gentrified into a playground for
rich people.
