Jokes, inspirational stories, chain letters, quizzes, brain teasers, and similar unwanted email received in large quantities, typically as forwards and often sent by individuals from one's address book and therefore able to bypass most spam filters. (From a Monty Python sketch where highwayman Dennis Moore inundates a peasant family with a large quantity of lupins stolen from the rich).

I just checked my email, and there must have been twenty lupins from my mother alone.
