1 definition by agoodsoldier

Three dots in a row in writing.

It is used when there is a brief pause in the middle of a sentence that is longer or more dramatic than a comma, or as extension to a thought, holding the effect of the thought just a little longer than the written word allows. This looks similar to the ellipsis, but without the brackets or parentheses.

Closely related to the fermata in music.
- the word formoto is not used when expressing the three dots, but is needed to complete this form.
