Purposefully creating a large chunk of back-story which has a different tone to a character's defined personality in order to justify a sudden change in behaviour. Often when a character is about to be written out of a TV series.
They just added a load of front-story to her character, she's obviously going to be written out.

Tonight's episode brought in a whole load of front-story.
