city job
A government job that offers great benefits,pay and/or pensions. Benefits include but are not limited to: health, dental, sick leave, steady hours, holiday pay and a pension package among others. It's is usually a well compensated position compared to working for a private company.
The term "city job" is usually used by the lower class/working poor. (Generalizing)They prefer the stability of working for the government than working under a boss in the private sector. (Unverified) Some states in America are "at will" which means the private company can fire you anytime for any reason, this is not so when working for the government. There needs to be a really big reason to fire you. Which makes someone less susceptible to the whims of a boss.
