The distinctive tendency of heavily narrative-driven JRPGs to subject players to excessively long, meandering stretches of dialogue, exposition, philosophical monologues, emotional flashbacks, or side-character backstories that advance the plot minimally (or not at all). This often lasting literal hours while characters stand motionless in a room musing and pontificating about the finer points of friendship / fate / the human condition / the true meaning of insert abstract noun here.
