To receive something that is not fully as expected or complete. Like a barebone computer which is not fully equipped to run but looks complete.
Guy A) Did you receive your order?
Guy B) Yes. But half of the things were missing and the notebook was a no-name instead of the proposed one.
Guy A) You were bareboned!!

Guy A) Did you get your car back from service?
Guy B) More or less. The chassis was fine. But every interior was missing.
