o11yneer
Short for observability engineer who treats o11y as its own discipline rather than “just more monitoring.” An o11yneer champions the user experience by bridging the gap between raw system telemetry and real-world customer experience, making sure that every telemetry signal exists with clear intent and purpose. They provide design and direction for how an organization instruments, stores, and uses telemetry, building relationships across engineering, product, UX, and leadership instead of hiding behind dashboards. They usually appear during incidents, talk a lot about “unknown unknowns,” and insist that monitoring and observability are not the same thing.
“When the new feature tanked performance for mobile users, our o11yneer connected product, UX, and backend teams, used traces to pinpoint the issue, and turned a vague ‘it’s slow’ into a concrete fix before the next deploy.”
