The Hivemind.'s definitions
A being connected intrinsically to all others sharing its name. A cog in a machine. A single drop in a vast ocean. One Tom is just a Tom, but all of them collectively form... THE HIVEMIND. All Toms are mentally linked, and if someone shows symptoms of Tom Syndrome, it may be because they are secretly a Tom, also part of the hivemind.
Person: ...what did you just eat?
Tom: Bleach? Obviously?
Person: HOW IS THAT OBVIOUS???
Doctor: oh dear... It's more serious than I thought. He's showing all the symptoms. He has tested positive for Tom Syndrome...
Person: wtf?
Doctor: I advise that you approach with caution. He is part of the hivemind. At this rate, there's no telling what their minds are sharing
Person: their? There are more?
Doctor: Tom is one, and tom is all. The hivemind is spreading. I can already feel more toms entering this world. Before long, we won't even be able to comprehend how powerful they will become. They may even dominate the world.
