To instantly slam the mental brakes on a trending impulse purchase after a sudden reality check, completely killing all your excitement in a matter of seconds. It's the exact moment your logic violently collides with your FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), stopping you from buying something useless right before you hit "Confirm Purchase."

I saw everyone on Twitch playing that new horror game and almost dropped $40 on it, but I ended up hype-braking when I realized I'd probably just watch streamers play it anyway.
