A stupid trick which no-one could be expected to fall for, yet nevertheless do. Often used in film and literature

Eg.

Villian: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Now you will die, slowly and horribly
Hero: Look Out Behind you a 3-headed monkey!
Villian: Aagh! Where? (He turns)
Hero kills villain.
