An apparently legitimate scheme, which later (often too late) turns to be an scam.

That half board meal voucher scheme turned out to be a total scameme!

Dogdemic 

An unprecedented increase in numbers of dogs acquired as pets for a given population during the "COVID years". Many are now unwanted or not convenient as new owners have returned to work.

The Dogdemic has led to huge increase in dog ownership in this area.
