The pretzel sandwich originated when you get a handful of pretzels in your mouth. You chew them, but don't swallow them. You then proceed to spit it out, mould it into a small patty shape, or a circle can work. You then put it into 2 pretzels, one on top, one on the bottom, hence the term "Pretzel Sandwich"
