A thing

When you dont want to have to admit that you're cheating, so you call it a thing.

Emily: We weren't even dating, it was just a thing.
Bob: Didn't you go on dates?
Emily: Yes
Bob: So if you are just a thing then can he see other people?
Emily: No... and he cant have female friends.

Bob: But arent you seeing other people?
Emily: Yes.
