The feeling you get when you lose the battle and lose the war. It doesn't have to be a literal battle (it can), but it could also be used to describe if something terrible happens to you, and when you think it can't get any worse, it does.
John: "My girlfriend just broke up with me!"
Henry: "Well, sorry to make you feel gessepany, but your dog also died."
Henry: "Well, sorry to make you feel gessepany, but your dog also died."
