The act of doing something that you believe will make your life easier, but in fact makes it more difficult.

Sam: Why is he swimming upstream like that?
Dan: He thinks he's swimming downstream.
Sam: Hasn't anyone told him?
Dan: He doesn't listen, he's just bruceing.
