“Picture’s up!” is a term used by the 1st AD on a film set to indicate that the 1st AD has just said “Picture’s up!” It has no correlation to the actual filmmaking process.
1st AD: Alright picture’s up.
15 minutes pass without rolling.
1st AD: and pictures up.
20 minutes.
1st AD: picture’ll be up here. Alright picture’s gonna be up…uh yah.
2 hours.
1st AD: okay picture’s up lock it up and roll sound.
