Paper-mâché parent

A parent who appears stable, responsible, or authoritative on the surface, but is emotionally fragile, performative, inconsistent, or hollow underneath; someone whose parenting image falls apart under pressure or scrutiny.

A parent who looks solid from the outside but collapses when actual parenting is required.
“From the outside she looked like the perfect mom, but at home she was a paper-mâché parent who couldn’t handle real responsibility.”
