Nonpliment

A neutral statement made in a situation where a compliment could be reasonably expected. Often used after artistic presentations ("Wow, you were onstage for like the whole thing", "I didn't realize you had so many songs", "I don't think I've ever seen you paint something this big."), nonpliments are the grey area between saying something nice and not saying anything at all.
I went to opening night and could only muster some nonpliments when I saw her after the show.

The review was pretty nonplimentary.
