Forced my lute
Found in a letter about refining coal. A lute seems to be a cork to block the entrance to a beaker. Therefore he might have ment that the gas produced from the reaction pushed out the lute from the bottle. However he also followed up with saying "or broke my glasses" meaning the pressure from the gas could've broken the beaker entirely.
