"to make a personally new item suited for your personal needs" or "to modify an item to use in a manner different from its original intention, usually to save money or due to lack of availability". "Sometimes know as MacGyvering or to MacGyver"

I had to boberize my new travel trailer by building a storage bin under the fifth wheel by using of old siding that we took out of the house twenty years ago. Or using a paper clip heated in a campfire to melt solder to fix an electrical short when you didn't have the proper tools or supplies!
