Etymology: Rapper Future popularized the term, but he recognizes it's one of the few slang words he uses that he didn't create, he took it from Atlanta slang. Atlanta rappers used it in the same context and it stemmed from rappers and gangsters wearing durags and caps to hide their baldness or bad hair. So to have no cap was to be genuine and not hiding anything - no lies.

It's erroneously attributed to the Kappa meme, but let's be real. What rapper is going to be referencing a Twitch meme.
