juxtalingual

A translation in which the caesurae of the original are followed by a narrow column, after which, and on the same page and line, appears a corresponding translation of the line or passage in question. In some cases, explanatory words not present in the original may also be present, commonly in italics.

Benjamin Thorpe’s transcription and translation of Beowulf is a juxtalingual translation with alternating columns of Anglo-Saxon and modern English.
