Greater Third Ward, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Texas, is called “Thiraq” as the violence there sometimes surpasses Iraq War levels. The University of Houston, located in Thiraq, has been the prime target for many of the hooligans (Thiraqis) residing near the university.

It is nicknamed "Thiraq" or "Third Wardistan" since on any given day, it is actually as violent as Iraq or Afghanistan.
