"Bea" means "baby" in french. "Bébé" or "Bé" for short.

Here in Québec people are saying "bé" for more than 50 years now and for the same reason as you: "Baby" is too cheesy, specially in public... So "Bé, viens ici" or "Bea, come here" in Murica.
