followers" or "successors", are the generation of Muslims who followed the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (ṣaḥābah)

The next generation of Muslims after the tabi‘ūn are called the tābi‘ al-tabi‘īn (Taabeen) تَابِعُو ٱلتَّابِعِينَ.
