LEEK

A green, onion-like vegetable that is often found in soups.

The leek gets its name due to its tendency to split open and release fluid when it grows faster than the fibers that make up the plant will allow, which is a direct result of the plants genetic disposition to rapidly absorb as much water as it can find.
"The café has delicious potato-leek soup today, but they mistakenly called it chowder."
