A term used in the profession of Nursing, originating from Alfred State College in Alfred, New York (Home of Hot Dog Day). WIPESA is the acronym used to teach nurses what to do when they enter a patients room.

“W” is to “Wash hands”, “I” is to “Introduce yourself and Identify the patient using their name and date of birth”, “P” is to “Provide Privacy to the patient”, “E” is to “Explain to the patient what you will be doing today”, “S” is to “provide Safety for yourself and the patient” and “A” is to “ask patient about any Allergies”.
Nurse: OK Dr. Jones, I performed WIPESA on the patient in room 2, he’s ready for you to start the procedure
