Danny Kennedy, MLA is the deputy leader of the UUP. The UUP was the ruling Party in Northern Ireland between 1921 -1972. The Party was formed in 1905 as the Irish Unionist Party. The original policy of the Party was to resist Home Rule in Ireland and maintain the link with the United Kingdom. The Party became the UUP shortly after The Government of Ireland Act 1920
