Love for a person who does not love you back.
Usually a close friend/past lover. You get to know that person, think they are brilliant, fall for them and can't get over them. It can affect your drive for finding a relationship.
However, if you are a sufferer of unrequited love, usually this is because you wouldn't want a partner that wasn't them. Similar to oneism.
Unrequited love can be one of the most emotionally painful experiences to go through, even worse than a break-up, because you will have never had the satisfaction of ever being with that person in a relationship.
Unrequited love is usually not linked with sexual desire, as the sufferer feels what could be considered a genuine obsession and love for the boy/girl in question.
Almost everyone on the planet will have experienced unrequited love at some point, and many will have been the subject of unrequited love.
Many sufferers of unrequited love do not tell their desired partner of their feelings due to fear of losing a friendship with that person. After all, it is better to be friends and be able to talk to them and see them than for them to block you out completely.
An anecdote from the popular Disney film Alladin helps to sum up unrequited love. Alladin can wish for all the money, power and fame in the world, but he will never be able to make Jasmine love him.

Unfortunately, the likeness stops there as Alladin and Jasmine end up together in the film. More often than not unrequited love amounts to nothing.
I love you, but you won't ever love me back.

Why don't you love me?

I'm getting depressed about you because you won't love me back.

Why do you only see me as a friend?

The worst kind of love. The love for those in love alone. Symptoms include: making a fool of yourself, daydreaming, and unrealistic hopes/desires. When you love someone who will not, and won't love you back it creates this immense longing for that person. You think that they are different than the tough jerk exterior he puts out, and are always hoping one day he will change and come to your door. But he never does, and even though you finally realize how much time you've wasted, you still love this guy. Its undeniable how pure your liking for them is, but you just want them to look at you and have that slow motion eye contact, realizing your the one, the one hes been looking for. Over time, this love may fade, but there will always be a little imprint of them in your heart.
Ali likes Jacob so much, but just can't seem to be herself around him. She is nervous and knows he will never love her like he should. He will choose a girl with less moral standards and she will have to suffer watching drowning in her own unrequited love for him.

- a strong romantic feeling for someone that is not returned. This is often due to a one sided platonic relationship.
- a relationship is often built up in ones head, only to find out that the other person does not feel the same way, therefore it is unrequited.
steve: I love you Pandora
Pandora: Erm you do know Im going out with Haz now dont you?

Steves love for Pandora is unrequited love because she doesnt feel the same way about him.

The crappiest, most hurtful, painful and confusing thing out there. It's basically when you're in lvoe with someone who will never love you and if your like me, he's your bestfriend and you know everything about him and him to you but it'll never work out because of obliviousness and fear to tell him. If you aren't like me, then the situation may vary to someone whos a total dick to someone who doesnt know you exist to your ex.
Ex: Me "I love him with my entire heart for 2 yrs and hes my bestfriend. Why can't he see I love him?"

friend: "unrequited love, hunny."

Possibly the worst emotion ever felt. Makes you feel unbelievably sad, and nothing, not even chocolate can make you happier. It also sucks that you try to get over them, but you can't get your mind off them. It's especially harder when they are one of your good friends and they tell you who they like.
Susie has an unrequited love for Thomas. Susie is Thomas' good friend. Susie likes/loves Thomas. Thomas likes someone else. Susie still talks to Thomas even though deep down inside, she still likes/loves him.

When someone you love deeply doesnt love you back, or even bother to give you a chance. No matter how many hints you give to that person, they treat you like your invisible. It's happened to me and it's very heart breaking. :'( <3 <3
Girl: *Watches her crush pass her by in the hallway, not even bothering to look at her* "He's never going to love me..."
Her friend: "He's not worth it."
Girl: "You dont know how bad it hurts. No matter how many hints I give him, he acts like I dont exist..."
Her friend: "Oh... Unrequited love."

Unrequited love is Hell. All you do is spend your days thinking of someone who will never think of you. You'd do anything for that person, and they'll do nothing for you. You can't forget them, and there's tearing you apart.
Unrequited love is like waiting for an airplane at a train station.
