The act of changing yourself, your intrests, or everything about you to fit the majority. This can be applied to alot of things. Such as a good friend leaving you out to dry for personnal gains, or a music group changing their own style to sell records. To abandon what is really you just so you can be "cool" in the eyes of everyone else. My friends (sell outs): Hey lets go dress up in pink Polos and short khaki shorts and sperries and spend all our money on crown royal and take Daddy's BMW and go hang out with all those real rich preppy kids from school so we can be awesome and just maybe get laid from a couple of town bikes

A band that betrays their original purpose for making music in order to make more money. MTV happens to be the cause of most sell outs, making bands worry about their music videos and wether or not they can get them on MTV. A sell out band has to have 3 things happened.

Someone or people (normally a band) that forget their morals or principles to sell records. They give off their values for money. Many people say Green Day are not sell outs because they never did anything that they said they wouldn't, but they said they were punk. Punks do not go on MTV. Punks do not go on Top of the Pops. Punks do not sign up to big record lables. Green Day, like other sell outs, rocked when they had souls.
Listen to EMI by The Sex Pistols, true punk who never sold out. Green Day probably think they are better than the Sex Pistols because they played a bigger gig, but what matters is what the true punks think. Billie Joe: So do we play this Milton Keynes gig or not?

Some people think that the biggest thrash band in the world sold out but really they didnt MetallicA never sold out, Cliff Burton and James Hetfeild said " We do what we want to do if people consider that selling out than what ever, 'cause alot of people think you sold out because your on a major label, or you don't play a thousand miles per hour, you know we'd be doing the same thing on a indapendent label." see they aren't sell outs R.I.P.
