Rap is that distinct horrible music that you constantly hear at your highschool, or on the street if you live in a city, or on the radio, or on TV. It can be identifyed by the "drum" beat that continually loops over and over. Often, listeners of rap identify the quality of a rap "song" by how "phat" its beat is, or something like that.
Another major characteristic of rap, is the stupid ass fucking shitty lyrics that a bunch of "bad ass muthas" try to sing over the equally stupid ass fucking shitty drum machine and synthesizers. These lyrics are basically always about how they just busted a phat cap in their homeez azzes. Or about how "life is hard in the ghetto". Nobody fucking gives a shit how life is in the ghetto, last time I was in the ghetto my wallet got stolen, so shut the fuck up.

Other Shit I Hate About Rap

Theres lots of other stuff about rap I hate. For one thing, its the horrible glamorization of it and its "artists". For example, I'd like any rap fan out there to tell me who wrote the music to any rap song (and none of those fucking cheap puffy songs count, cause he always just uses other peoples music, thus ruining the original song because his new "lyrics" fucking suck). I mean who wrote the MUSIC, not the lyrics, which are written by the stupid ass rappers. I'll tell you who wrote the music, a bunch of people you've never heard of in your life, and never will, who know how to operate drum machines and computers. Basically, the rap "artist" asks them to make a real "phat" beat, they do so until its "phat" enough, then the rapper dubs in the lyrics over it. Ever notice that at rap "concerts" theres about 30 people in the background, aside from the fucking stupid rapper and the 90 backup dancers, that you've never seen in your life? Those would be the people I'm talking about. But of course, the rap "artist" always gets 100% credit for their new "song". However, I can tell you exactly who wrote both the lyrics and music to say, the Metallica song "The Call of Ktulu". The 4 (original) members of Metallica did, and they played the fucking song themselves, with actual instruments (REAL drums, for example). I would like to see any rap "artist" pick up any real instrument and do anything impressive with it. Oh but wait, I made a mistake, "The Call of Ktulu" doesn't have lyrics, because its whats called an instrumental song. Of course in the rap world, nobody knows what the hell that means. Theres no instrumental rap songs, cause they would be fucking boring as hell. And theres not a single rapper or rap fan who can appreciate the talent it took to record a song like The Call of Ktulu.

Another thing I hate, is the fucking stupid rap fans themselves. These are the people who always argue that rap is superior to metal and rock (or basically any other style of music) because all that kind of music is just noise. Or, for example, this person I know who wheres a sock on his head once said that Metallica is just about Satan, and its just grunting or something. Well for one thing, Metallica has never made one song glorifying Satan at all. That job is reserved for shitty goth bands like Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel, and the fucking stupid ignorant rap fans get these bands confused with bands such as Metallica. They also often assume that all people who like Metallica, also like Korn, as if thats a rule. Metallica is one of my favorite, if not my favorite band, and I personally HATE Korn. Korn is just MTV's version of metal. All the stupid ass people at school who like Korn are those fucking dicks who think they are cool or something cause apparently liking Korn makes them different and strange, and therefore cool. Well, its a shame they are EXACTLY LIKE ALL THE OTHER KORN FANS, and so they aren't different at all. Of course, as much as I hate Korn and all those other shitty grunge bands that people get confused with Metallica, they all have about 300% more talent than any rapper.

A form of music created by record companies behind the veil of African-American culture in order to avoid attacks on it. Claimed to be culturally beneficial to African-Americans, in actual fact promoting a negative stereotype. Usually encourages sexism, racism and violence. Skill has yet to be found in this particular genre. Has been well received by middle class white adolescents in North America and Europe who are desperate to be popular, stand out as an individual and be in a position to belittle others (see poser).

Rap is basically the alter-ego of the music side of hip hop. In most rap songs, 5 themes often exist:
1. Drugs
2. Cash
3. Girls/Sex
4. Guns
5. Where they're from/Who they representing

& if either of these aren't the main theme of a song, then it's often about their past experience or a past experience of another (yet it will somehow involve one, all, or a combination of the 5 themes above).
In addition, in order for a rap song to be successful, the rapper must process a hot beat, a catchy hook, & maybe an hot line or two (or bar or two). Because if all of that was taken & the rapper would just rap his new verse acapella wise, the track would either be OK/Tight/decent/average or below. Because the lyricism out of most rappers range from OK/Tight/decent/average to "that shit is garbage." However, there are acceptions to this as a small amount of rappers do process above average lyrics:
1. Lil Wayne
2. Ludacris
3. Jadakiss
4. Styles P

Despite all of that, rappers process that hip-hop aritsts are currently losing....profit, fame, fortune, & publicity. Due to their catchy hooks, & the fact that their released singles processes hot beats, the general public will listen & enjoy rapper's work. In fact, the majority of the general public (most of the time YOU WHO ARE CURRENTLY READING THIS) will favored rappers over hip hop artists when it comes to who you listen to more & who is the best out right now & popularity. Unlike hip hop fans, the fans of rap & the public who are not in tune with rap or hip hop music process minds that are NOT lyrically set (in other words if you are a rap fan or are not a rap nor a hip hop fan, then YOU DO NOT PROCESS A LYRICALLY MIND...MEANING YOU CAN'T DETECT WHAT'S HOT WHEN IT COMES TO THE LYRICS!!!) This statement especially described elementary kids, middle school kids, & most high school kids as they are simple minded & can't tell the hot lyrics from the shitty lyrics.

However, a positive side for rappers (as a whole) is that they make more money then most hip hop artists (as a whole) right now.
Example of rappers:
1. 50 Cent
2. Young Buck
3. Tony Yayo
4. TI
5. Da Franchise Boyz
6. 36 Mafia
7. Lil Flip
8. Lil Scrappy
9. Lil John & tha Eastside Boyz
10. MOP
11. Chingy
12. Cassidy
13. Fat Joe
14. Game
15. Dipset
16. Snoop Dogg

Rap is a genre of music. Those who say rap is about only certain subjects are not being logical. The content therein is not what defines a genre. The content is what defines a sub-genre. But the truth is, all music is undefinable. No single definition can explain the huge web of music one influence can create. I listen to all rock and roll but metal, which may baffle some people, and I listen to all hip hop that I think is artful enough.People have been throwing out words targeting popular rap artists such as 50 Cent. NOT ONE ARTIST CAN ENCOMPASS AN ENTIRE GENRE OF MUSIC. The real reason people are going out of their way to insult what rap (and rock) music really is they don't feel comfortable with it. Music is not "good" or "bad". ALL MUSIC HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ENJOYED, AS LONG AS IT IS APPROACHED WITH AN OPEN MIND. Your taste in music is affected by your life, what you are surrounded by, what you are told is good. People who could hate rock don't give it a chance because they don't want to be like people who listen to rock. Same thing goes for rap, which is what we have been seeing here.
Rap and Rock and Roll and actually very similar. Some Rock and Roll is about sex drugs and money. Some hip hop is about
the appreciation of its own music, equivalent to having a rock song about "rocking out".
Some say rap takes no talent. 1, that is completely opinionated. 2, they are mixing up musical talent with knowledge of music theory. True, Hip Hop and Rap does not require knowledge of music theory(although it helps), but it could be said that rap requires more natural, raw talent rythmic talent than Rock and Roll. It is not necesarilly true, and in some cases are not, but it could be considered. Again, genres are so wide, there is no way to not oversimplify.
The main thing is, you enjoy music that you WANT to enjoy. If someone gives you A TRIBE CALLED QUEST's THE LOW-END THEORY, and you say, I hate how these guys are so under-produced,than chances are you wont happen to like it after a couple of listens because you are giving it no room to grow on you. But if you have and open-minded approach towrads it, you might say, after a couple of listens, I feel comfortable hearing this, and I think it is great. Not many people who can describe an entire genre as "bad" like music itself enough to approach a new genre, and dig deep for something they like. They let the corporate heavies set the bar for all of this music. Hip Hop, Rap, Rock and Roll, are all judged, and should both not be viewed as Metallic, Headbanging nonsense, and Gangsterific, Shoot 'em up pointless talking.
The point is, if you love music enough, don't judge, and don't be lazy. Search for music, and don't let the pop get to you first.
Rock Lover: Rap is bad. It takes no skill.
Rap Lover: All you have to do is break a guitar to play rock.

The Truth: No sentence alone can describe music. Don't let WHO listens to music affect how you like it, and approach it with an open mind.
(p.s. For those who do and don't like hip hop, actually check out the what I think is a genius album "The Low End Theory" by "A Tribe Called Quest")
