Philomath

A small town in Oregon where people go to rope cattle, cut down trees, and shoot spotted owls. It is also inaccurately defined as the "love of learning".

Philomath is the bitch step-sister of Corvallis, an infinitely cooler town, yet only two or three miles away. Refer to the definition of Corvallis.

Philomath is also not a safe place for queers. It's really only a nice place for meth fiends and dipshit rednecks.

Philomath blows for a lot of reasons. The biggest reason is that Paul's Place is no longer there. If you know what's good for you, you'll drive right through without stopping on your way to Newport.

philapathy 

To feel and care about someone else to the point where one creates a sense of the other person/animal's state of being. It may or may delusion, however the root of the person's belief stems from his/her imagination. In reality, the other person does not care. The other person is apathetic but the sympathetic/empathetic person projects emotions onto what he/she is observing.

A person feeling philapathy may or may not be right depending on the circumstance. However, philapathy is an imaginative sense nonetheless.

That person is in a corner so therefore he/she is lonely. In fact, that person in the corner does not care to associate with anyone in the room but the onlooker does not understand from his/her point of view because the onlooker would not feel the same way under the same circumstance. The reason why this person projects this state is always due to love or caring for that individual who displays apathy.

A person feeling philapathy will often think he/she know what another is feeling but may or may not be right.

A pathological need to adhere to a specific belief system to the exclusion of all else. For example, adherence to Socialism in an environment where Capitalism would function better, or adherence to an archaic scientific maxim long since overturned by new evidence.

The Senator's philopathy prevented him from being open-minded.

Philomathian 

A "philomath" is someone who loves learning or is a lover of learning and knowledge. The suffix "-ian" can be added to denote belonging to or being related to, commonly used for denoting a native of a place or a member of a group. So, a "Philomathian" would be a student who has progressed beyond the basics and now demonstrates a love for learning and a deeper pursuit of knowledge, fitting for a third-year student who is choosing to specialize further in their studies.

It comes from joining Philos and Mathe together.

Philos, meaning "loving" in Greek, often used in the context of affection or affinity for something.
Mathē, meaning "learning" or "knowledge" in Greek.

Petr has finished his second year of studies and turned philomathian.
