The name is derived from the television show, The Simpsons, Fallout Boy is the young sidekick to the Superhero, Radioactive Man. Like Robin is to Batman.

The band Fall Out Boy is currently(2005-06) very popular. However, they give what is quite possibly the worst live performance of any major record label band currently out.

The guitarist and bassist insist on being in constant motion while on stage, including jumping in 360's, getting on top of amps, and jumping off of stage platforms, even though they are physically incapable of continuing to play correctly while doing so. The lead singer/second guitarist can neither sing, nor play guitar well, much less perform both tasks at the same time. This produces a stage sound and presence which is highly unnatractive, and very unpleasant to the ear.

Their songs are pop-driven, somewhat simple, yet varied, and feature many catch phrases that will be branded all over your friends' AIM profiles and Myspaces for the next few months.

Examples:

"Drop a heart, break a name"

"I'm just a notch in your bedpost, but you're just a line in this song"

"Sugar, we're going down"

"We'r always siffee ee eida sefehh fodah roongg teeee"

As the last quote demonstrates, most of their lyrics, even on the studio tracks, are indiscernible to the common person's ear. But not the 8th and 9th grade girls. They can mysteriously hear all of the lyrics and find great, deep meanings in them.
Girl: "OMG i loove Fall Out Boy, 'Sugar We're Going Down' is the anthem of my lifeeee"
Guy: "I think we need to break up"
Girl: *sad face* "I'm just a notch in your bedpost, aren't i?"
Guy: "Yeah, seriously, we're not even going to be friends anymore."

there are so many bitch fall out boy haters who dont even know what emo IS or why they hate it. fall out boy is in my opinion a fantastic band, and if you dont like them, dont LISTEN to them, dumbasses, dont just call them fags and think it makes you cool. hating FOB doesnt make you cool or different, and neither does liking them. if you like them, good for you! music is an escape. the lyrics are awesome. and all you FOB haters, have you even LISTENED to the lyrics? ignore what they look like or who their fans are and try to focus on appreciating their fucking MUSIC. FOB started in chicago, pretty much at the bottom of it all, NOT founded by 14-year-old fangirls, and worked their way to the top with actual talent. you're not being all cool and interesting by calling them gay emos. emo isn't a group of guys sitting around in tight pants and makeup and slitting their wrists or crying to their counselors. emo is a type of music, idiots. someone whos "emo" just means theyre more in touch with their feelings, or they like the color black, according to some people. but before you use "emo" as an insult, try finding out what it MEANS first! anyway, fall out boy is a band based on talent and interest, and if you dont like em, bite your tongue and whatever you were gonna say, shove it up your ass.
fangirl: the new fall out boy CD is totally fabu! pete wentz is yummalicious!
me: yeeeeeeeah. the new cd IS pretty good. petes a good singer and all but...wha?...nevermind. whatever you say.

A highly overrated pop punk band. Often the band of choice for 13-15 year old girls. Consists of typical whiny emo-ish lyrics. See also My Chemical Romance

An amazing band from Chicago that used to be on Fueled By Ramen, an awesome record label from Tampa. Now they're on Island, but that's okay, we're still in love. Fall Out Boy has already released Evening Out With Your Girlfriend and Take This To Your Grave, and on May 3rd, 2005, From Under The Cork Tree will come out. Fall Out Boy is made up of Pete Wentz, who plays bass, writes lyrics, and screams, Patrick Stump, who sings, plays guitar, and writes music, Joe Trohman, who plays guitar, and Andy Hurley, who plays drums, and is extra-special because he's a vegan.

A new age band that has attracted it's main audience of the ages 13-20. The band originated in Chicago, and consists of their lead singer/ guitarist, Patrick Stumph ( who has dropped the "h" in his last name due to pronunciation), their bassist, Pete(peter) Wentz, drummer, Andy Hurley, and lead guitarist, Joe(joseph) Trohman. Many teenagers idolize and respect them and their lyrics. Fall Out Boy is in the rock, pop crowd. They play many secret shows in Chicago. Fall Out Boy has also been recognized as the best musical group for many awards. They weren't exactly good at finding names for their band, so at one show they played when they were up and rising, they asked their audience for suggestions, and a fan yelled out Fall Out Boy, and the name stuck. Fall Out Boy's bassist, Peter Wentz has also founded the new band, Panic! At The Disco. Fall Out Boy has been recognized as the hardcore, partying group that will be remembered after they have been long gone, and even when they pass, they will rock the heavens!
Fall Out Boy has been known for it's most popular songs such as, Sugar we're going down, Thanks for the memories, and Dance dance!
