The term originated at UC Berkeley by a Mechanical Engineering student. A mosquitohawk is a person who wanders around completely inept. A mosquitohawk is characterized by dead eyes, walks into walls, poles, doors, and has a strange attraction to warm lights(the typical Berkeley Egineering student).

While heading to class, a mosquitohawk ran into me on the side walk.
