quantum mechanics 

An extremely specialized area of physics that is really hard to understand, but it does actually make sense when you study it. Trust me, it's fucked up and involves a lot of fucked up math which I'm not going to explain but some of the other definitions on here explain it.

It will fuck up your worldview big time and that's one of the reasons Albert Einstein hated it so much. Can't blame him, I mean, his theory of relativity was supposed to be the one which finally described the true nature of reality and then comes along the double slit experiment and the schrodinger equation which just completely butt raped our current understanding of reality at the time and it's still puzzling today, although many scientists are searching for a grand unified theory which should explain the relationship between relativity and quantum mechanics.

Some of its philosophical implications are fucked up. Many believe it means reality doesn't exist but only our minds do, some believe it means there are parallel timelines/universes to our own, some believe its due to higher dimensions geometrically interacting with ours, some even believe it could imply our universe has some sort of pan-psyche to it. Yeah it gets really fucked. It just goes to show that we don't know shit about our universe.

Surprise Mechanics 

What EA(electronic arts) uses to describe lootboxes to try and avoid government involvement from their games.
Along with this, they have likened their fanbase's consumption of lootboxes in games such as FIFAto the consumption of a Kinder suprise egg, which unlike lootboxes doesn't come packaged in an already 60 dollar video game and has some sick ass toys in it and doesnt have less than one percent drop rates for highly wanted items

temporal mechanics 

Theory that relates to the study of time travel. Often seen causing major paradoxes, such as the Dali Paradox, Grandfather Paradox, Pogo Paradox and the Predestination Paradox.
The Dali Paradox is when a temporal fissure slows time to a gradual halt. Also called the "melting clock" effect

The Grandfather Paradox is when a person travels to a point in the past before they were born and kills one of their own ancestors, taking themselves out of the picture before they were able to travel back in time.

The Pogo Paradox is where interference designed to prevent an event actually triggers the same event.

The Predestination Paradox is like as follows: Say a man goes back in time and impregnates his great-great grandmother. The grandmother would thus give birth to one of the man's great grandparents, who would then give birth to one of his grandparents, who would then be able to give birth to one of his parents, and finally to the man himself. As a result, the man's very existence would be pre-determined by his traveling to the past, and therein lies the paradox.

Lagrangian Mechanics 

Lagrangian Mechanics is the reformulation of Newtonian Mechanics that utilizes the Lagrangian defined by

L=T-U

where

T= total kinetic energy of a system of particles
U= sum of the potential energy functions of a system of particles

In other branches of physics, the Lagrangian is defined as the function

L: TQ--> R

Where Q is the configuration space, a subset of R^3N
such that the action, defined as the functional,

A(q)= int(L) dt
when it reaches stationary value at {q(t)}, will male {q(t)} the equations of motion.
Note, int() means the integration notation with the limits of integration being positive an negative infinity, respectively.

It is shown, using the Calculus of Variations, that the equations of motion are in such a way that they satisfy the Lagrange's Equations of motion

Where D is the differential operator with respect to time, d/dx stands for partial differentiation, and v is the generalized velocity.

quantum mechanics 

A branch of physics in which the measurable qualities (position, momentum, energy) of a system are described by "observables." The system, upon measurement by the given observable, after being in a superposition of multiple states, collapses into one of a variety of states allowable by the Schrodinger equation. The exact state the system collapses into, is probablistically determined.
X|s1>=x1|s1>

In this example, |s1> is the system being "measured" by the observable X (X denoting the position observable, allowing us to see where the system is within space.) We obtained |s1> as a single state, from a previously superposed (|s> = |s1>+|s2>+|s3>+...)state through an earlier measurement, which collapsed |s> into |s1>, and allowed us to measure the value x1 for its position. In quantum mechanics, all of this information is encoded in the language of vector spaces, as well as linear algebra, and expanded into whats known as a hilbert space (can be thought of as an infinite dimensional vector space).
