Common Japanese expression of defeat, exasperation, or one's own screw-up.

English equivalents would be, "Oh crap", " I'm fucked." "I can't believe this."

1. Taro arrives at Narita airport an hour before his flight to New York and realises he has forgotten his passport at home.

"Maitta"

2. Yousuke sends a text to his girlfriend, "waiting in front of love hotel, come quick! ♥"

then realizes he has accidentaly sent it to his wife.

(Staring at message in a sudden sweat.)"Maitta"
