The word describes people who only want to talk about themselves. The letters stand for Let's Only Talk About Me. LOTAMs never ask you how you're doing or show interest in your response. If they do ask you a question they're looking for the next opportunity to hijack the conversation back to themselves.

That guy's such a LOTAM, all he does is talk about himself.
