A dope, idiot, dummy. It's used not so much as a deep condemnation of character, as commentary of an incident or discrete act. And, meant to disparage the person at that moment for what occurred.

I appreciate that on yahoo it was noted that it's necessarily a mean thing to say

I am such a dufuss. Every year I forget my Irish Aunt Trish's birthday, and have to ask my mother-in-law if it's exactly on St Patrick's day.
