This is a neutral definition of the word Democrat. Urban Dictionary should be about defining words, not advancing a point of view.

this definition of democrat is not a rant
3. Democrat
Apparently, people who aren't allowed to back up their point of view with evidence.
Republican: It's obvious the Bush tax cuts helped the poor more than the rich.
Democrat: Actually, statistically, the rich recieved almost-
Republican: Your numbers mean nothing.
Democrat: This entire issue is about numbers!
Republican: No, this is about the people! This is about Joe Everyman!
Democrat: What the hell are you talking about?
Republican: I'm talking about how you radicals use numbers to mislead everyone into thinking the Bush tax cuts were bad, and that we have massive debt.
Democrat: ...We DO have massive debt, and the average person got around $300 back, whereas the rich got-
Republican: Are you telling these people America is BAD? Are you saying that America isn't the best damn country ever?
Democrat: No, I just-wait, what? This isn't about me! This is about the issues!
Republican: Not responding to my questions. Typical.
Democrat: ...
Republican: See, clearly I have silenced you with my powerful, factual argument.
Democrat: I had sex with your wife, Bill.
Republican: What?!?
Democrat: She said she wanted a man who didn't tell her she belonged in the kitchen.
Republican: ...
4. democrat
1. One belonging to the United States Democratic Party

2. Tend to believe that government should come to the aid the most disadvantaged in society (see Unemployment Insurance, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security). We don't bring it up much, but it's what Jesus taught.

3. Belive in the separation of church and state, on the off-chance that not everyone in America is a Southern Baptist.

4. Doesn't believe that industries have the unfettered right to dump carcinogens into our water supplies. Also believe in protecting public health and worker safety.

5. Believe in strengthening public education, rather than gutting it with vouchers.

6. Belive in civil liberties and equal rights for all people, regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation; a Democratic President pushed through the Civil Rights Act even though it meant losing half of his party. That half, comprising mostly of racist whites, now overwhelmingly votes Republican.

7. Most have actually read the 9th amendment. Can also spell "amendment."

8. Represent broadest spectrum of the American public: women, blacks, Latinos, gays, Jews, seculars, immigrants, union workers, and yes, also straight middle-class white male Protestants like me.
If they were alive today, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt would be Democrats.

Despite a wealth of good ideas, Democrats have allowed themselves to be intimdated by semi-literate meatheads called Republicans
5. Democrat
A person who votes for the Democratic party. Not necessarily one of the far left wing.

Many Democrats (like myself) are centrists. While i believe that you should keep most of the money you make, and that you should learn to make money yourself, rather than relying on government handouts. I cannot bring myself to support the current Republican platform.

Ultra Right-wing Baptist fundamentalism is JUST as bad as Ultra Left-Wing Hippie fundamentalism.

Also, In an ideal world, i wouldnt mind paying taxes, as long as the govnernment is doing something with them. I would rather pay more taxes and have them go towards reforming our social system (second amendment) then pay less taxes that go towards killing Iraqi's.

They didn't attack us
They didnt have weapons of mass destruction
They are not liberated, they hate us

6. democrat
The default political party to vote for when opposing republicans in a presidential campaign.
Voting for the green party is worthless, I'll vote democrat.
7. democrat
democratic principles are generally based on equality, toleration, and justice (unlike the self-serving, selfish policies of the republican party)

for example:

1)abortions are sometimes necessary to protect the health and life of a woman, especially in cases of rape, incest and danger to the mother. republicans prefer to criminalize abortion. democrats do not support abortion, they support the CHOICE to have an abortion. no mother would make that choice unless she absolutely had to.

2)citizens born into low income families and neighborhoods are born in a difficult situation that is hard to escape and should be assisted by the government through social welfare programs so they can take steps to escape poverty and prevent the cycle from recurring. this would solve many inner city problems such as gang violence and drug abuse. welfare is not a handout, it is a program, and without it many americans would have nothing.

3)there is no need for every american citizen to own a gun. this amendment in the constitution was referring to a time of war when the battles were being fought in the home country. putting guns in the hands of civilians is putting guns in the hands of criminals - because criminals are civilians after all. also, thousands of accidental deaths occur every year as a result of keeping a gun in the home and the possession of a gun is dangerous and easily abused.

4) taxes are necessary to build roads, fund schools and fund other social programs that ar...
