Creating or doing something less optimally than it could have been done otherwise as a direct result of past experiences or lack thereof. Most likely a cross between "coming back to bite me in the ass" and "shooting myself in the foot."
When something you have done with poor judgement and bad taste results in you being harshly rebuked.
