1. bass
The most underestimated, but most awesome and coolest sounding instrument in a rock band. The reason people degrade bassists is because it looks easy. infact its not.. the best bassists make it look easy. Guitarists are usually seen cooler than the bassists. But anyone who says that bassists are failed guitarist should probably get brutally beaten up..
I chose to play bass because its more fun, sounds cooler, and is also more harder to master than guitar.
basses were very large and were from orchestras until the 1950's when someone was actually smart enough to make an electric bass which is much smaller

2. Bass Guitar
Bass guitar: a 4-12+ string instrument tuned in perfect 4ths (F#BEADGCF{8 string in 4ths}).
Remnant of the Classical "double bass"(contra bass, Upright bass, violin bass, Ect.) it was created to allow bass players to take their instruments with them easily without the need for lots of space. it initialy had been created with frets, to make learning the instrument simpler.
The bass guitar evolved into a completly different instrument than its ancestor, a bass guitar is played with the fingers, either with the common Pizzicato or finger pluck, or by slap playing. slap bass is when a bassist "slaps" the side of the string, usualy a lower string, to produce a vibration, then can be followed by a "pop" where a player gets under the string with a finger and plucks it firmly, the string comes down on to the fingerboard ...

3. bass
Bass An instrument often played by wannabes who dont wanna "follow the croud"However, when played properly, the bass adds just as much to a song as a guitar. Part of the bands machine, along with the drumbs.
Flea, Victor Wooten and the guy from Sly and the Family Stone are some of the best bass players going.

4. String Bass
A large string instrument which plays very low tones and is, colloquially put, a bitch to carry around. The bass players have one of the hardest jobs in an orchestra, because they must keep a steady beat (to prevent the violins from speeding up or slowing down), but they must also change their tempo if the violins ignore their beat. The strings are usually tuned E, A, D, and G, in ascending order.
Sam: "Do I get to park in a handicapped parking spot because I have to carry a bass around?"

David: "No."

Sam: "Well, I should."

David: "Yeah. It's hard work, but playing string bass is awesome."

Sam: "Indeed."
5. bass
1) A far more sophisticated, fun, and powerful instrument evolving from the upright jazz bass shaped like a guitar, oftenly cosisting 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 12 strings. Used in most modern music and hardly given any recognition, the bass produces low-end sounds and notes used often to provide rhythm along with percussion instruments or backup to another instrument, such as an electric guitar.

2) What the idiot ghetto kids at your school refer to as a guitar, think electric varieties can produce sound when not plugged in, see as an "evil" instrument used in heavy metal music worshipping Satan, and view only as a tool to get you laid, which is just an added bonus.
Some famous bass players include Flea, Jaco Pastorius, Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, and Ginger Baker.

6. bass
an instrument shaped, held, and fingered much like a guitar, only cooler. bass players happen to be much much sexier than guitar players, despite popular belief. i would bang any bass player in a second, provided he was any good. double points if he's british..
Lisa: that guitarist is a glory hog, but the bass player is talented
Me: and damn sexy.
Lisa: agreed.

7. bass guitar
Saying that if you can play a Electric guitar means that you can play a bass guitar is like saying that: if you can play a Cello you can play a violin. Which is wrong, yes you should be able to play something, because of the tuning to be a like, but the play style and the place and job in the band / Orchestra is very different almost totally different.

Guitar Vs. Bass

The Guitar is one octave higher than the bass and is therefore easier to mix notes and make chords, because the sound will be much brighter and clearer than the bass. As the bass often just makes a blurry dark sound. Don’t take me wrong, you can mix notes with the bass, you just need to know what you’re doing. (Personally, I mix notes all the time but that’s my play style. Often 5th’s and octaves)
The guitar has also a smaller neck then the electrical bass and its therefore shorter space between each fret. This makes it easier to move your fingers.

Bass guitars.

The most common bass is the 4 string bass, as a beginner you don’t need more strings. But advanced players sometimes got the urge for more:P the most common option then is one or two extra strings. A 5 string bass (usually, not in my case) adds a dark B string. Needed for metal or heavy rock riffs. A 6 string bass adds a low B string and a high C string. I haven’t heard about two lighter or darker strings. You can also get a 12 15 or 18 stringed bass, but it’s really as a 4, 5 or 6 stringed bass that has the same concept as t...
