Uncle Tom is a Christian figure and hero portrayed in the book "Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” UncleTom is ultimately martyred; being beaten to death by a cruel master, simply because Tom has a sacrificial heart for others and refuses to betray the location of two black women who have escaped from slavery.

“Tom is ordered by Simon Legree, the immoral slave owner, to flog a female slave. Tom refuses. Legree strikes him repeatedly with a cowhide lash. Again, he tells Tom to beat the woman. Tom, with a soft voice, says,

The poor crittur's sick and feeble; 'twould be downright cruel, and it's what I never would do, nor begin to. Mas'r, if you mean to kill me, kill me; but, as to my raising my hand agin anyone here, I never shall, -- I'll die first’" (Page 439, from "Uncle Tom’s Cabin," by Harriet Beecher Stowe).

I would assume, the majority of people representing the black race, who call members of their same race “Uncle Toms,” have never read the book nor have they acted heroically to save other lives from harm. They would learn fine quality traits from his humble man of God represented in fictional character form, who is willing to sacrifice his own life to protect others.

It is incredibly strange liberal blacks call people names using a fictitious character who assisted in freeing the black race. The book is considered the main weapon implemented in erasing slavery, and Uncle Tom is the hero.

Historically, Uncle Tom was a black man born into slavery, who ended up sacrificing his own life to save the lives of other slaves. But, when this story was made into a movie, Uncle Tom was portrayed as a slave who gave his life for his master.

Now, an "Uncle Tom" is a derogatory term to describe a black man who "acts white" and "talks white", or who is a sell-out to his own race. A black man who kisses white people's asses, and who will turn his back on other black people to keep the approval of whites. A sell-out, an ass kisser, a race traitor...

I've also heard people describe an " Uncle Tom" as a whitewashed black man. A black man who may have been raised by white people, and who therefore has the manorisms and behaviors of a white man. He would also speak like a "dorky/nerdy" white man.

A black man, who, while speaking to over the phone, one would think they were talking to a white man.
"Colin Powell is an Uncle Tom. Condaliza Rice is a female version of an Uncle Tom."

"That guy is such an Uncle Tom! I thought he was a white dude, til he got to my door and I saw he was black!"

Uncle Tom is a term used by black people to insinuate that black people that speak proper English, are mature, have a good job, good education, work ethic and-or if they hang out with white people that makes you a sell out.
Jamal works, has an education, lives well, sets a good example for his children and is a productive member of society? He's a Uncle Tom.

This is a socially excepted racist term used by the liberal media to condemn a black person who's views don't correspond with theirs. Used as a red herring to dismiss their political views.
Thomas Sowell is an uncle tom, don't listen to his point of view.

A person of color, especially a black person who acts in a way so as to come across as trying to please or gain approval of the white-dominated establishment. Example of folks in the recent past accused of "Uncle Tom" behavior are Condoleezza Rice, Herman Cain, Allen West, Artur Davis, Angela McGlowan, Michelle Malkin (née Maglalang)
Mitt: Did you hear what Condi said about Obama?
Ryan: What what tell me?
Mitt: She said I'll be a much better world leader than Obama since I understand American exceptionalism.

Ryan: Love it. Gotta love them Uncle Tom wannabe's. They just so want to get our approval.
