Contraction of nanny and animal with positive connotations. Typically refers to someone not directly related, but in a superior position of authority who is capable of providing direction and leadership in a genuinely caring manner but is also able to relate to subordinates on extracurricular/recreational subjects, while sometimes (whether intentionally or unintentionally) demonstrating even more fluency than said subordinates on matters related to e.g. partying and drinking. Example: a super nice boss that remains surprisingly optimistic and encouraging when given negative results even on multiple consecutive Fridays. Very professional and competent at leading meetings, and never fails to give credit to employees, but will sometimes make references to Vegas and similar scenes that can be difficult to follow. The usage of nanimal is accentuated in disciplines/fields where at least half of those employed by a nanimal are more likely to e.g. overdrink while watching anime rather than at actual drinking venues. Outwardly likes wholesome things like beets, but will turn down Haribo gummy bears (possibly to set an example of a healthy lifestyle to subordinates), but who will also go out of their way to drop off top-shelf whiskey/hide them under rocks in the front yards of their employees' houses. 10/10 employees would recommend a nanimal as a boss.
