The greatest melodic death metal band on the planet. The best at what they do, like Dimmu Borgir with black metal.
Don't let anyone tell you any different
The Songs Trigger, The Quiet Place, and Cloud Connected are SOME of In Flames's best songs.

Metal band hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, that has produced gems such as "The Jester Race" and "Whoracle" which is considered by many to be the best melodic death metal album ever.
The band has become more and more commercial through the years, becoming less heavy and simplifying their music to the point that it resembles the dreaded nu-metal, a change that begun in the album "Clayman".
Most metalheads consider them to be the softest excuse for death metal that exists (along with Children of Bodom & Arch Enemy), just as black metal fans consider Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth to be the worst bands in the genre.
Discography: Lunar Strain & Subterranean, The Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony, Clayman , The Tokyo showdown-live in Japan, Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to your escape.

In Flames is a pregressinve-deathmeta/thrash metal band that was created in the thriving environment of Gothenburg, Sweden. They usually make me feel proud to be part Scandinavian. Sure, people complain about them turning into nu-metal bands that closely resemble Linkin Park or Korn. But I still love their stuff, exept for the song "System"
Sadly their originality is slowly deteriorating over the years, maybe they will be the best if they teamed up with Children Of Bodom.
Haha! now THAT will seriously kick every band's asses into oblivion!
Opeth are not from Sweden you ignorant dog-carcass-fucking-assholes

One of the pioneers of melodic death metal (although it resembles more of a melodic "thrash" than "death" metal). They became a band kids recovering from nu-metal/mallcore would quickly pick up on. Eventually the band drifted closer and closer to commercial friendly "extreme" music starting with Reroute to Remain, which honestly wasn't that bad. From there, they made Soundtrack to Your Escape, a joke of an album where they forget they were good with solos and replaced their music with generic techno and nonsense nu-metal noise. Some people will excuse them and say, "the band needed to change, do you want them to recycle the same album over and over?!" while non-stupid people can simply see a bland desperate attempt to be the next Linkin Park here. Maturing your sound and conforming to market-researched music are two different things people! Thus another blatant sell-out band is born.
Kids who think they're cynnical about Linkin Park and listen to the new In Flames are funny for obvious reasons.

One of the greatest European metal bands out there, and my number one favorite band. Although they are awesome, Opeth is the better band out of Sweden.

Ok I am a true In Flames not these posers who listen to STYE and RtR and Come Clarity, which are utter crap compared to before.

In Flames are one of the pioneers of the "melodic death-metal" genre along with Soilwork and At the Gates. This is true death melody with a lot of groove and thrash elements mixed together with superb musicianship. Whoracle and Colony are their best albums in my opinion because they sound so uniquely different while kicking major ass at the same time. With their beautiful acoustics mixed with badass keyboards this band truely stood out and kicked ass at the same time. A lot of shitty bands try to copy them with their sounds and fail miserably. Listen to everything up until RtR, and you can see why they are famous. Episode 666 is thier best song but every single song kicks ass even on Clayman which sounds radically different(a lot of more thrash elements) from Whoracle but stands out from most bands out there.

Releasing Reroute to Remain, they basically took a shit on everything they stand for. It's basically just really low tuned guitars with one note chords over and over with a semi-decent chorus. And his voice is trying to be clean but it's ear piercingly painful to not listen to him growl. I have no idea why they did it is such a shame because this band was once a god of metal. It's so sad to see this band sink to this level because if you can listen to Reroute to Remain and then pop in Jester Race or Lunar Strain you would be pissed off too. So sad to see such a badass band go to waste.

In Flames: Once the god of death melody, now just another sheep in the flock.

Best albums=
Lunar Strain and Subterrenean
Jester Race/Black Ash Inheritance
Whoracle
Colony
Clayman

a kick ass band from Sweden who along with Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates help create the genre known as melodic death metal, they have released a total of ten studio albums, starting with the album reroute to remain they took on a lighter sound because they started having a tough time playing their songs live so they wanted to focus on making songs that would sound better live while still maintaining a unique sounds (at least until a bunch of people copied them)

great old songs:
episode 666
the hive
as the future repeats today
lord hypnos

great new songs:
