you may say cuts are stupid or just a way to get attention. But no. When things are too painful, its a way to escape, to feel a different pain then you usualy do. Thats it.

the scars or slits made by emo's when they are 1. looking for attention or 2. seriously depressed and they hate their lives. Emo's often slit their wrists so the pain of the cuts takes away the pain of other things.

a term that refers to scene kid emo poseurs who slit their wrists for the same reason they do everything else - to be cool popular and considered hardcore. these cuts are not evidence of an attempted suicide but instead a desperate cry for sympathy and attention. however, this word should not be confused with "self mutilation" "cutter" or "self injury" it's only emo kids who cut themselves for attention and popularity. people who have real problems with deliberately hurting themselves are either suicidal or using it as a way to relieve negative feelings (ex. distraction, escape, numbness, control...) you will know if someone is for real or just an emo kid poseur because the little attention-whore will run up to you revealing the emo cuts and complaining about how bad life sucks, hoping you will feel sorry for him/her. real people hide their cuts(burns, bruises...) from everyone so don t think every cutter is an emo attention whore fucking poseur
emo kids and their emo cuts keep the people with real problems from getting the help they need because no one takes us seriously anymore

Small, inconsequential cuts, or the scars left from them, that the more dedicated emos adorn their arms with so as to encourage others to pity them and agree that their life is as bad as they say. Kids with these aren't suicidal, only attention-seeking, if not status-seeking. A pathetic "hobby"/"accessory" and major insult to the people that really do feel they have no way out and need to end their own life.

emo people ,first of all, do not all ways cut. If they do, or anyone else for that matter, it is to cope with or reflect negative feelings on the out side of their bodies. This can normally help alleviate negative feelings temporarily due to the fact that cutting releases endorphins in the brain which makes people feel good.
Other people cut not to feel good but to punish themselves because of something they did or to show how terrible they are on the inside to everyone by putting some of it on the outside.
