A person who constantly makes negative comments or has negative thoughts named “Debbie,” “Deb,” or “Deborah,” with physical features resembling those of one with Down syndrome (such as shortened posture, wide set eyes, enlarged tongue, short hair cut) hence the word “downer.”
The students were so excited to throw their teacher a baby shower until Debbie Downer arrived and rolled her eyes.
